Earlier this year, Microsoft collaborated with Asus to introduce the ROG Xbox Ally and the ROG Xbox Ally X, two handheld gaming devices that run on Windows. The company has now announced that both devices will be available in India starting on October 16. Equipped with the AMD Ryzen Z2 series processor, Asus claims their latest gaming handhelds offer a gaming experience similar to consoles in a compact, comfortable design. Each handheld features a 7-inch FullHD LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate, which has an anti-reflective surface and is safeguarded by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. These devices can reach a brightness of 500 nits and include support for AMD’s Freesync Premium technology to reduce screen tearing. The button layout of the ROG Xbox Ally and the ROG Xbox Ally X is identical to Asus’ earlier handheld models. They feature a completely new shell with an updated palm rest and textured patterns that, according to the company, provide a better grip for extended gaming hours.

The primary distinction between the two models is in their hardware. The high-performance ROG Xbox Ally X is powered by the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 processor, while the standard ROG Xbox Ally features the AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor. The ROG Xbox Ally X comes with as much as 24GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage, compared to 16GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage in the ROG Xbox Ally. Additionally, the ROG Xbox Ally X includes hall effect triggers, while the ROG Xbox Ally has “impulse triggers.” Regarding connectivity, the ROG Xbox Ally X is equipped with one USB 4 port, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, a UHS-II microSD card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The ROG Xbox Ally, on the other hand, offers two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports along with a microSD card reader and a 3.5mm headphone jack. In case you’re curious, the ROG Xbox Ally X and the ROG Xbox Ally have 80Wh and 60Wh batteries, respectively, and weigh 715 grams and 670 grams. Both handhelds come with a 65W charger included.

In terms of software, the ROG Xbox Ally and the ROG Xbox Ally X run on Windows 11 Home from the start. However, instead of the typical Windows desktop and taskbar setup, users are welcomed with a full-screen Xbox interface, which Microsoft states minimizes performance overhead, making it quicker. The tech giant has also integrated the AI-enhanced Gaming Copilot into the Game Bar, allowing gamers to acquire new skills, communicate with others, and more. The ROG Xbox Ally and the ROG Xbox Ally X are now available for pre-order on Asus’ website, as well as in Asus and ROG Exclusive stores, Asus Eshop, Amazon, Vijay Sales, and approved Asus partners with starting prices of Rs 69,990 and Rs 1,14,990, respectively. Customers who pre-order will receive a ROG Slash sling bag, one year of PC Gamepass Ultimate, and discounts of Rs 1,499 and Rs 499 on the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, respectively.
