Virat Kohli, who emerged as the top scorer in the recently concluded World Cup, will not be participating in the white-ball matches during India's tour of South Africa. This tour commences with a T20 International on December 10 in Durban. Kohli has officially informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of his decision to take a break. The South Africa tour consists of three T20 internationals, three ODIs, and two Test matches. The national selection committee, led by former India allrounder Ajit Agarkar, will soon finalize the Indian team for all three formats.

Kohli showcased an exceptional performance in the World Cup, accumulating a remarkable 765 runs in 11 innings, including three centuries. Consequently, he was honored as the player of the tournament. A source revealed that Kohli has informed the BCCI and selectors about his need for a break from white-ball cricket. He will notify them about his future plans regarding white-ball cricket. However, he has confirmed his availability for selection in the two Test matches in South Africa, as he intends to focus on red-ball cricket for the time being. The first Test will take place in Centurion, while the second Test will be held in Cape Town.
