American Couple Adopts an Intersex Child in Telangana

For the first time, an LGBTQI child was adopted in Telangana in India by a U.S. couple.

The four-year-old intersex child, who was born with both male and female genitals, was abandoned by her parents right after her birth and was kept in the shelter. The child already shifted into her new parent's home in the United States. Her mother is an analyst and father works at a school in Washington.

According to a Times of India report, the first report from her new parents is due in August. The surgery can be done for the child once she turns 10 according to the gender the child decides.

As per the procedure, the child's report will be monitored by the local adoption agencies for three years and through the reports sent in by her parents every six months. As soon as the girl settles down and all the things appear all right, the Indian department will take a backseat.

The report further mentions that how it came across as a shock to the adoption agency in Telangana when the couple from the United States approached and showed their interest in the child since foreigners, for the most part, adopt children with disabilities or with special needs and Indians on the other hand only go for healthy babies.
