Pakistani Father Pardons Indian Youths Accused For Killing His Son

While the diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan is escalating unevenly, a Pakistani father has decided to forgive ten Indian youths, who were found guilty of murdering his son in 2015.

A UAE court has approved the request of “blood money” paid to the victim’s father. The court still has to rule on the pardon, but it seems to be that ten men will be freed.

According to Islamic law or Sharia, which the UAE follows, the victim’s family can file an appeal in the court against the death penalty for the convicts, if the two reconcile and the family pardons the latter.

The victim’s father, Muhammad Riaz said that "It was unfortunate that I lost my son. I have forgiven these 10 individuals. In fact, Allah has saved their lives."

Muhammad Farahn of Peshawar was killed in 2015 during an altercation over bootlegging in Al Ain city. The court sentenced the ten suspects to death. Another youth had been spared the gallows, but was fined Rs 2 lakh.

"The lives of at least 10 people, including a wife and children, depend upon on one person, who works in the UAE. I appeal the young generation not to indulge in such fights," said Riaz.

Dubai based Indian businessman, SP Singh Oberoi is providing the ‘blood money’ to the victim’s father, Oberoi heads a charitable trust.

In Islamic law, 'blood money' is paid to the victim's family as compensation. In the UAE, 'blood money' for all males residing the country, whatever their religion or nationality, is 200,000 dirham. (The blood money is for females).

Oberoi said the trust invited Riaz to come to the UAE and arranged a visa and accommodation for him and his family.
