The Dubai police said on Tuesday (7th February) that a technician was crushed to death, while trying to separate two cranes that for intertwined 50 meters above the ground.

The Director of the Difficult Missions Squad in Rescue and Transportation Department of Dubai police ‘Major Ebrahim Al Hammadi told to local news that the incident took place at a construction site at Dubai Sport City on Saturday (4th February).

After Friday’s stormy weather the technician came to work on the site and found that one crane had moved and got intertwined with the second one due to the strong winds. Then the technician tried to separate them and he was crushed in between by the cranes.

Major Al Hammadi said, they were alerted about the incident on Saturday after afternoon, after reaching the scene of the incident, they saw the body of technician struck more than 15 floors’ high between two cranes.

He said that it was a challenge for his team as the two cranes could have clasped and cause a greater disaster on the site.

“We were very careful and evacuated the place in order not to risk lives.”

Experts and engineers confirmed that as the cling point was 50 meters high any move might cause a disaster.

Major Al Hammadi added that they made a plan and brought two big cranes and installed them beside the two intertwined cranes and then attached parts of the cranes to the newly installed cranes and separated them slowly and managed to bring down the body of technician.

Major Al Hammadi said that it was a difficult task and his team worked at 15 floor height on unstable cranes and risked their lives to extract the body. The team was sad as they could not save the life of the technician.

“It was a difficult mission and my team was working at 15-floor height on unstable cranes and risking their lives to extract the body. We are sad that we couldn’t save him,” Major Al Hammadi said.
