Rio-bound shot putter Inderjeet Singh fails dope test!

The Times of India reported, the 28-year-old athlete was caught using a banned steroid in an out-of-competition test on June 22. It was a "fancy-sounding" drug however the name could not be ascertained, Sources said.

"The National Anti-Doping Agency sent a letter to the athletics federation this evening saying Inderjeet had failed a dope test," a source said.

"We were doubting something was wrong when we came to know about him avoiding the NADA tests. Our worst fears have come true," it added.

Inderjeet was the first Indian athlete to qualify for Rio. He earned Gold medal in the Asian championships, Asian Grand Prix and the World University Games last year.

Inderjeet claimed it was a conspiracy against him and his sample has been tampered with. He said that, "This is a conspiracy and there is something wrong in it. This will be checked by the doctors though. I don't want to comment on it but whoever has tried to raise their voice in this country, they are forced to shut up."

"My sample has been tampered with. Why would a player take something which is not good for his health," he added.
