A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) passenger plane PK 116 reportedly crashed near the city of Abbottabad in the country’s north.
According to initial reports, there were 47 people on board the ATR plane from Chitral to Islamabad.
PIA spokesperson Daniyal Gilani earlier said to the media that, flight PK-661 had disappeared from air control radar while flying from Chitral in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province to Islamabad.
PIA spokesman Daniyal Gilani tweeted, "PIA's ATR-42 aircraft operating as PK-661, carrying around 40 persons lost its contact with the control tower on its way from Chitral to Islamabad a short while ago."
"All resources are being mobilized to locate the aircraft."
